Alberto Cigada

Alberto Cigada was born in 1948; he graduated in Chemical Engineering at the University Politecnico based in Milan, Italy. Currently, he is a Full Professor of Material Science and Technology and Lecturer of Materials for Design at the School of Design.
He has held several positions during his academic career: President of the Italian Society for Biomaterials (SIB); Secretary of the Interuniversity Center for Research on Biomaterials for Biomedical Engineer (CIRMIB); representative of the University Politecnico within the European Center for Nanomedicine, a foundation which is devoted to the development of new materials and technologies to improve the diagnosis and treatment of neurologic diseases; Editor-in-Chief of the "Journal of Applied Biomaterials & Functional Materials"; Board Member of the POLIdesign Consortium and Board Member of the Society NanoSurfaces on behalf of the Politecnico Milano.
His scientific activity and areas of interest include: relationships between microstructure and properties of materials; corrosion and protection of metallic materials; materials for biomedical applications (biomimetic and antibacterial treatments of titanium and its alloys; Ti-Ni shape memory alloys; UHMWPE reticulation processes for articular prosthetic; bone cements) and materials for design.
He is the author of 160 publications, 5 patents and 120 communications presented at scientific congresses.
